Queries running 50% slower on Virtual Servers

We are using Pervasive Control Center 11.20 and we see the performance have been degraded by 50 % on virtual PC's.

For Example, A Query takes 6 hours to complete on physical servers .. where as the same query takes 13 hours to complete on virtual servers.

Do you have any idea what causes the slow performance on virtual PC?

Any suggestion or advice on this would be great help..

A few questions:
- What OS are you using on the servers?
- Are both Physical and Virtual Servers using the same version of the Pervasive engine?
- What are the specs on the Physical Servers?
- What are the specs on the Virtual Servers?
- What Vitrualization package are you using (VMWare, Hyper-V, etc)?
