I run QuarkXPress 6.5 in PowerBook G4 (mac OS X - Version 10.3.9).
I have installed HP Deskjet F4280 All-in-One-series, which functions well for scanning, copying and MS Word files printing.
But, only, to print QuarkXPress files it refuses with the label: "Cannot open the printer. Unknown error"!
I cannot understand where and what that error is... It is the first time I am met with such a reaction!

founds this on another site:
I have only just found this site, otherwise I might have been able to answer this sooner Smile

A colleague of mine had this and I managed to sort i t for him.
What you need to do is enable the root user in OSX, using NetInfo Manager > Authenticate > then 'Enable root user'

In System Preferences, go to accounts > account options > and change login to 'names and password fields'.

Log out and type "root" in the username and the password you specified when you enabled the root user.

You'll see a different looking desktop.
Open Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility.app

Repair permissions

(it should say the symbolic link in "/var/printers/" is repaired.

Log out and type your normal username and password.

In System Preferences, go back to accounts > account options > and change login back to 'list of users' as before.

You should now be able to print.
