Happy New Year Everybody!
I'm the webmaster and work on a PC. The graphics Designer who is doing layout for our semi-annual magazine works with the QuarkXPress 4.04 on a Mac (version 8.5.1).
I need a nice PDF verstion of the document, as well as the text to convert to HTML pages.
The Problem(s)
The best bet was to create the PDF directly on the Mac for a number of reasons. However,
The Mac needs help. The graphics designer isn't a power user, and the RAM and hardrive space is in sore need of updating (128 megs RAM, about 95 megs free on the hardrive). Tried to install PDF Printer Driver Plug-in 8.5.1 and PostScript Printer Driver AdobePS (Distiller was already installed) which didn't work, and in the process killed the ability to print to the HP printer hooked up to the Mac. Reinstalling the software for the printer worked.
Suffice to say I'm scared to touch the machine again.
Buying Quark XPress for the PC is an idea, but then I'd have to deal with transferring all of the phones, not all of which are TrueType, as well as the slight differences between Quark on the different platforms, as well as the cost.
Does anoybody have some ideas about how I should proceed in making a PDF from the XPress document as painless as possible? Thanks!
