Quark XPress 7.0: editing numbers in palettes & dialog boxes

I run Qark XPress 7.0 on a Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 Mac, Mac OS 10.4.11, and sometimes it does not allow editing the numbers in any palette or dailog box. A friend of mine suggests Quark could have a keyboard shortcut to block such editing that I may have accidentally typed, but I don't think so, because I don't see the usefulness, I could not find anything of the kind in Quark's Help, it happens right from the beginning of the work session and not at some moment along the way, and restarting the app. sometimes helps but not always. Apparently, closing some other app's before restarting helps some. Any idea why this happens and how I could get rid of the problem? It's extremely annoying.

...probably worth downloading the update to 7.31 (although very large download for a slow net connection)...

...also try trashing the quark preferences file, usually the cause of many signs of odd behaviour...
