Quark unexpectedly quits

I'm using quark 6.5 passport on a mac G4 operating OSX 10.3.9 and for some reason each time i open quark i get a message saying the application has unexpectedly quit!
does anyone know what i can do to get around this?
Is there a piece of software i can use to check for viruses?
this is really frustrating can anyone help?

Hi Ferris9999,

Are you double clicking on a file or are you opening Quark by itself from the Dock?

Do you have a font software extension which auto loads fonts? Like Suitcase?

...try trashing the preferences file created by quark, it is rebuilt on launch of quark, search for:

com.quark.QuarkXPress.plist

...also move out the quark folder from:

users > library > preferences > quark

...relaunch quark...

...if you still have trouble later, try cleaning out the font cache files using a maintenance tool, fontexplorer is useful to achieve this and also clean out your fonts folder leaving only system critical ones active:

...if you still have trouble, disable extensions using quarks extension manager then do a process of elimination to find a possible corrupt extension. This is under the utilities menu...
