We have two Macs currently running OS 10.3.9 (The Macs were updated to this version about a week ago. I think they were running OS 10.3.7 previously). A few weeks ago we upgraded our Windows 2000 file server to a brand new server running Windows Server 2003 SP1. Originally, only a Windows share was created. I started out having the Macs connect using SMB to the share. Everything worked fine, except that all of their Quark Files showed up as Unix executables on the share. I did some research and found that it is best to have the Macs connect using afp for the Quark files. So I installed File Services for Macintosh and created a Mac share on the file server. The Macs connected using afp and the Quark files showed up as Quark files. However, another problem arose. The Macs could not see any Windows files, which is something they need to be able to do. So I deleted both the Windows share and Mac share and create a new share for both at the same time. That seemed to fix the issue of the Macs not being able to see the Windows files, however, another problem arose. All of the Quark files on the share now show up as text files. When they double-click on the file, it opens in the text editor. I can have them hold down the Control key while clicking on the file and choose Open With Quark. The file will open in Quark. If I have them save the file (they are using Quark 6.1) as a Quark file onto the share, it still shows up as a text file. If they create a brand new Quark file using Quark 6.1 and save it to the share, it shows up as a Quark file. I have been searching and have not been able to find an answer for this latest issue. I need the get it so that the Quark files show up as Quark files. The Mac users are complaining that it isn't efficient to work with the Open With option everytime they want to open a Quark file. I would like to get it so they can see their Quark files as Quark files.
