The harddrive is struggling to load Quark express. However on other machines in the same office, there are no problems. As i'm not familiar with Apple Macs, can anyone PLEASE help me on this matter?

Thanks in advance,

What version of Quark & MacOS? What model of Mac are you using? ...RAM?

OS8 indicates it is an older Mac which may be prone to run slower.

I've got more information regarding this matter if anyone can please help me with the matter???

* When on the phone, he gave me an example of the problem. He said, "If for example i am putting a text box in, and then when i've done that I want to put a picture box in, there is a junnering noise and it sounds like the computer is struggling."
* They have two identical Mac's, the same spec. The other of the two doesn't seem to be struggling at all, where his is.
* The guy is using MacOS 9, not 8 as we originally thought.
* He is using version 4.1 of Quark Express, which he tells me is the latest version. I have just been informed that version 5 is on the way, if it isnt already here.
* He has 128mb RAM in the Mac, and according to a site, i'm told that MacOS 8&9 only need 64Mb RAM to run the OS and the applications.

Is there any other problems which could cause this to happen that anybody knows about? Please remember, i've NEVER used a Mac before in my life, so please if you have any ideas, put them in lamers terms!

This sounds like a HD problem - unless Quark is the only program where one hears a 'junnering noise'.

Try running a HD utility that can check for errors/flakiness (Apple's free Disk First Aid or better yet, Norton Utilities)

You may need to buy a new hard drive. While one should already have a back up policy in place, this kind of problem should prompt an immediate back up.
