Quark Crashing Repeatedly

On a 2 page document i am trying to create a grid (table) of 3mm by 3mm sqaures for the background but trying to work on the table Quark keeps crashing. Even navigating around the document takes forever. There are no images in this document and moving around another with images in is faster. Any iedas?
