Quark 6 to PDF, having to manually add the extension 1

Apart from the general stuff of the not too great quark 6, one big problem is that on about half the documents i PDF the file is not a recognisable format. it does open as a pdf and function semi-ok if i manually add .pdf. Why is this?!

Mac or pc?

I know if I save a pdf on the Macs without an extension, I can't open them on the pcs...
