Quark 6 Keyboard Quirks!

I have been having NUMEROUS problems in typing in Quark 6 with Panther. At times I'll be going along and all is just fine, and other times all of a sudden I have to space TWICE to get one space, and also, RETURN twice to get a return! Then it'll go back to typing fine.

I thought it was the keyboard and tried another one, but it wasn't that. I noticed that the undo key at the bottom of the screen lit up when I typed, and would then un-light, which caused the space key to backspace and this also happens with the RETURN key.

I found NO WAY to turn this off - maybe preferences, but could not.

Other problems were that I couldn't use the RETURN key to "SAVE" a document I named. I had to manually click the SAVE button to SAVE a file.

Also, printing is a pain in the butt. It used to take 1-2 keystrokes to print a document. Now it's a 7-step process: picking a printer, picking a page size, picking another printer, etc., etc. Even making PRINT STYLES doesn't make it easier.

Any feedback on these issues? As usual, I can't talk with ANYONE from Quark either on the phone or email.

By surveying folks that use both Quark and InDesign, you will find that Quark's 5 and 6 offerings were disappointing and the concensus is that they are on their way out of the DTP world.

I haven't used QXP6 on Panther, but I am running on 10.2.8 and have the same issues with printing -- which is a known issue and will be addressed in the new update, possibly coming in Feb. <crosses fingers> I read a little something in the Quark forum just now that sounded like you may need the update for full functionality in Panther ANYway... Sounded to me that it's really only supported in Jaguar.
