Quark 5 Palettes redraw causes lag

I'm using QX5 in OS 10.2.8. Both the STYLES and COLORS palettes redraw themselves and their contents everytime I click on a different text/pic box or change tools. This slows down everything as I have to wait for the redraw each time. I have "full screen documents" checked on my Quark Prefs, but it doesn't help. Also, If I thow out the Quark Prefs file, it helps for a little bit, but then goes back to its bad behavior.

Does anyone have a solution for this annoying problem? I'd really appreciate it.
