Quark 4 to 7 - pictures disappearing?

I have files that were created in Quark 4 and then another designer worked on them in Quark 7. I open them up and break sopt colors from pantone to cmyk and colorzied tiffs that were colored with some of these colors do not print. Actually after resaving this document in Quark 7 at my place under an new name they disappear? Are there issues with older documents opening in a newer version?
