Quark 4.1 compatible with Illustrator 10?

Hello

Recently we upgraded to Illustrator 10 on 2 Macs on our network, one running OSX 10.3.6 and the other running OS 9.1. When ever we save to pdf or eps and get picture into a quark document the file is much larger then the orginal created one. Has anyone else had this happen, is a compatiblity issue between the two?
