I have a W2K server with ARCserve 2000 installed. To this I have connected a Quantum TZ4700 Tape Drive and TZ Media Changer with 7 slots. I've configured it in the normal way, however ARCserve only recognises one slot.

In Device Manager, I notice that the tape drive and library are shown as separate objects, whereas on my other ARCserve systems(V6.x on WNT4) they're linked.

If anyone has a suggestion on how I can sort this out, I'd appreciate it.

Jake

O/S: Windows 2000 SP2
Backup: ARCserve 2000 Advanced V7.0 (build 1086)

Did you run the Device Configuration Wizard in ARCserve 2000, how did this work ??
Somehow ARCserve doesn't recognize the tape drive as part of the tape library so it sees the Quantum tape drive as a single device, single tape drives have only on slot.

Cyklops,

Thanks.

Yes, I ran the configurator - it correctly listed my devices and let me configure slot 6 for a cleaning tape. However when I restarted the tape engine, there was no change, and it still only sees the tape drive as separate from the loader.

Try disabling Removable Storage Service and running Device Config again.

Is this a single server connecting to the library, or is it shared?

ARCserve is V.7.0 build 1085.

My devices are on the Certified list.

I checked Control Panel/Device Manager and Microsoft drivers are loaded for these devices...

I know ARCserve uses its own device drivers, so perhaps there's a conflict. I'll try unloading them and see what happens.

Looks like I'll have to load SP4 as well - never easy, is it?

Thanks,

Jake

Jabus:

Thanks for the input - I'll give it a go and post results.

It's just gonna be one server connecting to this device...

Problem resolved - comparison with another system with similar configuration showed that the Tape device was disabled in Device Manager.

Disabling the device and rebooting produced the desired configuration.

Cyklops and Jabus - thanks for the assistance...
