I am running QTP 8.2 and trying to create/run a test against a Microsoft Access 97 application (a MDE tied to an access db). When I have both applications up (I’ll start QTP first) and start recording (and I record on all open windows) QTP fails to grab any of the stuff I do in the access application. I've also used the Object Spy and found that it can not delineate the different objects in the given window, it gives them all the same name, and there is no difference in any of the object values, so I can’t use the descriptive programming to define the object in question. Is there some other Addin I need to use, or some option I need checked in order for this to work? has anyone else tried to use QTP to test a MS Access 97 app? Any suggestions would be much appreciated....

You need to take a look at Virtual Objects. These allow you to define an area of your gui that is a button, radio box, etc.

You'll need to make sure that you are set to record Virtual Objects as well :

1. Go to Tools -> Options.
2. Select the General tab.
3. Make sure the "Disable recognition of virtual objects while recording" option is cleared.
4. Click <Apply> and <OK> to save the settings.
