Just curious of the QoS service under my network properties is really necessary.

I use Win XP Pro on a stand alone computer, using and Intel Pro/100+ NIC to connect directly to my Cisco 675 DSL modem/router.

I have been reading that removing the QoS can increase your bandwidth since by default the QoS is reserving 20% of your bandwidth.

Is QoS necessary on a standalone computer?

Thanks

I don't think it can be removed, can it? I shouldn't need it either, I connect to a Linux server mostly. Mike Wills

Mike,

You can remove it. I already have (I can always add it back if I need it)

Just go to your network properties, and you will see it installed as a service. Just uninstall it from there.

You can also edit the settings in gpedit from what I have read. The default setting is "20" 20% I guess....
