Hi

Our organisation have 8600 core & 5520 edge with a mixture of CS1000E, CS1000M and BCM50. At the present time voice and data networks are running independently. Over the upcoming months/years we are looking to implement VoIP, Video over IP, etc.

Can anyone recomend any books, etc that would give an overview of QoS idealy with a leaning towards the Nortel products detailed above. Don't need "engineering" level but need the ability to converse with Technical staff in any discussions around our requirements.

Essentially, QoS needs to be approached in 2 separate ways:

Qos on the LAN - simple default configurations cover your needs and really not a drama and barely worth spending time and effort talking about.
To be able to talk sense to your technicians on this one, the best thing to read would be the chapters on QoS in the 5520 manual. About 3 times...

QoS over the WAN - needs close attention and configuration specific to your topology including close work with your WAN provider ensuring they offer classes of service on the WAN links and will recognise and honour your traffic's DSCP tagging on their network devices. Traffic-shaping on your outgoing WAN routers is required.
Wikipedia is a good place to start to make yourself aware of the issues involved for QoS on the WAN.
