I have gone through a full qmail install, with very very lil problems (IF ANY) at all. most of the problems that i encountered were more with dependancies rather than with qmail itself. i have to say it was a rather teadious task.

the problems i'm having now is when i run qmailctl stat i get the following...

/service/qmail-send: up (pid 15308) 154 seconds
/service/qmail-send/log: up (pid 16428) 1 seconds
/service/qmail-smtpd: up (pid 16423) 1 seconds
/service/qmail-smtpd/log: up (pid 15322) 153 seconds
/service/qmail-pop3d: up (pid 15312) 154 seconds
/service/qmail-pop3d/log: up (pid 15313) 154 seconds
messages in queue: 1
messages in queue but not yet preprocessed: 0

shouldn't qmail-smtpd and send/log be up just as long as the others? if so, why do they go from 0 to 1 and back. I've also noticed that the pid changes constantly. like so...

/service/qmail-send: up (pid 15308) 99 seconds
/service/qmail-send/log: up (pid 16054) 0 seconds
/service/qmail-smtpd: up (pid 16055) 0 seconds
/service/qmail-smtpd/log: up (pid 15322) 98 seconds
/service/qmail-pop3d: up (pid 15312) 99 seconds
/service/qmail-pop3d/log: up (pid 15313) 99 seconds
messages in queue: 1

also, what other things need to be done to send and receive mail? i've send test messages from external emails, like yahoo and gmail but only get bounce messages.

any help would be great!

Your daemons are crashing most likely because you do not have enough RAM allocated for tcpserver to allow them to run.

look for references to "softlimit -m" in your 'run' files for these scripts. You should consider initially doubling the values shown to see what's going on.

Don't forget to restart the tcpservers with the "svc -h" signal
