qmail-start problem 1

i have a problem . in my rc script i have written
exec -env PATH="/var/qmail/bin:$PATH" /
qmail-start "`cat /var/qmail/control/defaultdelivery`"
but the qmail-start script doesn't seems to be workin fine .it says alert:cannot start:unable to read control
is there any way u know i can get over this problem

Are you able to start qmail manually?

Do you have your me control file configured properly?

/var/qmail/control

This one was killing me. I'm running qmail in a supervised environment. After some hard digging, I found this off a Portuguese site:

make sure these permissions exist:
drwxr-xr-x 2 root qmail 213 dic 9 13:14 .
drwxr-xr-x 10 alias qmail 219 nov 29 14:40 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 root qmail 8 nov 5 22:59 defaultdomain
-rw-r----- 1 qmails qmail 40 nov 29 06:21 locals
-rw-r--r-- 1 root qmail 14 nov 5 22:59 me
-rw-r--r-- 1 root qmail 8 nov 5 22:59 plusdomain
-rw-r----- 1 qmaild nofiles 30 nov 7 14:26 rcpthosts
-rw-r----- 1 qmaild nofiles 13 nov 5 22:59 smtpgreeting
-rw-r----- 1 qmails qmail 106 dic 9 13:14 virtualdomains

The INSTANT I configured the last permission, my hard drive lit up, and it just worked... did not activate anything. Looks like it was waiting for the right permissions to invoke itself through the supervisor.
