Hallo All,

Strange problem here. I installed clamav 0.75 from the beginning but never actually used it. Now I find that if I, in the /usr/local/etc/clamav.conf comment the line

# Comment or remove the line below.
Example

to 'start' using clam, i get the following error when trying to send.

451 qq temporary error

In the /var/log/qmail/smtpd/current log file I have these kind of errors:

X-Qmail-Scanner-1.21:[ml10922148664705167] clamscan: corrupt or unknown ClamAV scanner error or memory/resource/perms problem - exit status 50

I read somewhere that perhaps I should increase the softlimit in /var/qmail/control/qmail-smtpd/run file, but it is already set to 15000000.

Any ideas?

Your soft limit should be high enough. I would do the following:

1) probably just reinstall clamav, its easy and if you've left it unattended something may be incompleted

2) be sure to load an initial virus definitions file

3) be sure to schedule (cron) virus defs updates

4) sample test vs clamav

5) you also need to launch the daemon clamd for qmail-scanner to find it.

thedaver - many thanks. I was just reading man clamscan, and apparently exit code 50: Database initialization error.
Doesn't bring me any closer I'm afraid.

Cron is updating (freshclam) daily, I have no errors in /var/log/clam-update.log

Do you know on top of your head how to

-load an initial virus definition file?

I think I have done that, but seeing the exit code I begin to wonder...

Thanks.

In case anybody else runs into this, it was a comment in the clamav.conf file.

# Run as selected user (clamd must be started by root).
# By default it doesn't drop privileges.
#User clamav
User qscand

Changed from clamav to qscand...
