Ok, this is not exactly a redirection. We have a linux server with qmail and an ISA server with exchange. On both servers there are same accounts - for example info@linuxserver.com and info@isaserver.com.

The ISA server acts as firewall, but the linux is outside the firewall. When the exchange is down, all emails that are for info@isaserver.com go to info@linuxserver.com. The idea is when there are same accounts on both server the emails from the exchange get redirected to the linux (if the exchange is down).

I don't know who made this setting but now I have to remove it. Can anybody help? Should I check the qmail, the exchange or maybe the DNS server on the linux (bind)?

I'm sorry but would you please explain that again? I'm having trouble following what's been put in place and what you want help with resolving...

Ok, I know I haven't explained it well.
So, our network has a MS ISA server, which acts as a firewall. It has a MS Exchange server installed on it. Also, we have a Linux server, which is outside the firewall.

There are 2 SMTP servers - one on the Exchange and one on the Linux. The domain for the Exchange is say isaserver.com and the domain for the Linux is say linuxserver.com.

Now, there are email accounts both on the Exchange and the Linux, for example info@. So we have info@isaserver.com and info@linuxserver.com.

When the ISA is for some reason down (this includes the Exchange server as well), all emails that must arrive to info@isaserver.com instead of getting bounced go to info@linuxserver.com. So the Linux server acts as a secondary receiver. But this is done automatically.

So my question is - in what file, setting, whatever should I look in order to remove this "forwarding".

I hope I'm more clear now and thanks for the efforts.

OK. Here's what I see with regard to your qmail...

Your question is, what is doing this? Your DNS. You probably have at least two mail exchanger MX records defined in your two domains. It appears that isaserver.com has linuserver.com listed as a secondary email server for the domain. As you correctly stated, this enables the linux box to receive mail deliveries for the ISA box and hold them for a while until the ISA box returns to service. This is very normal and very healthy.

What may not be correct is that your linux box is trying to take the messages in locally or apply them to the linuxserver domain??? A properly configured mail gateway (see prior paragraph) would only store and forward the mail for the other domain. It would not try to make the mail available to users.

You may need to check your /var/qmail/control files such as rcpthosts, locals, and virualdomains to understand which domains the linux box has been told to work for and which ones are perceived as local.

I recommend Life with Qmail as a topical read if these points are confusing.
