I have qmail completely setup and installed and working except for one tiny thing. You can received mail at:

user@mydomainname.net

However, when I send mail. The From: is in the form:

user@hostname.mydomainname.net

How do I have to configure qmail so that when I reply to a message it uses "mydomainname.net" instead of "hostname.mydomainname.net"?

Thanks,

bitwise,

Not sure how i fixed it but we had something simular.
We work with virtual domains. So our real domain is

@hostname.mydomainname.net

Then we setup a virtual domain that contained

@mydomainname.net

and that did fix it.

check what is in the control files at
/var/qmail/control

does the 'me' file contain

'hostname.mydomainname.net' ?

and what does the 'virtualdomains' file contain.

Im sure the anwser lies somewhere in the control files.

Actually, it seems that all you have to do is change the "/var/qmail/control/me" file to just contain domainname.net. That was all I did and it worked. Now that was using qmail-inject to send the message. I also had to configure PINE and set the "user-domain" value to domainname.net. If "user-domain" was not set in PINE then the message would still ship out as hostname.domainname.net. I'm not sure. I guess everyone's setup is a little different. I'm not using qmails $USER/Mailbox but still using procmail and the traditional /var/mail/$USER to store my mail. Does that have anything to do with this conversation...no, but you might have had to use virtualdomains b/c of some weirdness in your setup.

Thanks!
