We backed up a windows 98 machine using MS Backup and did not receive any error messages. Then we formatted the HDD and load Win2K, went to restore the needed files from another W98 machine and received "An error occurred while retrieving the backup directory, End of Volume (4613 1205)" error. Is there anyone who can help us get the data from this file? I tried MS Support, they tell me there's nothing that can be done. I would think someone has a utility that can read this file or knows how to reset some pointers.
Thanks,
Mark

I got the same problem... but I'm able to restore some files. I wish I had the solution.

Sorry guys win 2000/NT Backup does NOT recognise the QIC backup files produced by win98.
Thanks Microsoft!

I'm having to reinstall 98, restore then copy the files as they are to another partition then put win 2000 back on. This has really hacked me off as a mate requires an important file from a backup.

Try Backup MyPC from Stomp found @ - There's a trial version available to download - worked for me under Windows 2000 (QIC file written in Win98). It's written by Veritas (or uses the Veritas Backup Exec Desktop engine) and looks and feels the same as MS Backup.
