you can't. But you can put it in an mc and change the aplha of the mc to zero, or you can make the colour of the font the same as its background (if you have a single tone background).

well you could always change it the text to a 'graphic' symbol and change the texture, the alpha 'making it transparent by percentage' or just changing the color of the new symbol all together. a MC or movie clip is also a symbol but if you just need to tween it or what ever turing it to a graphic symbol works well.
