Hi all,

I'm trying to make a spreadsheet that puts X records in a random order. I need this to create schedules for when people have to work.

Thanx allot,

Can you clarify what you are trying to achieve. I am not sure I understand the question.

If you're trying to "draw names" at random, try the RAND function.

Insert a new column next to the employee's name. Next to the first employee, type =round(rand(),3) into the cell. It generates a random number with 3 digits. The odds of the same number appearing twice are very small. So, copy the formula down to the last employee. Don't move! Hit Copy, hit Edit-Paste special-Values. Click on just one of the cells, and sort. This should give you a randomly sorted list of your employees. Brainbench MVP for Microsoft Word

PS. If you're going to use it again and again, put the formula in and save the file. Then do the copy/paste values. Close the file without saving it. Whenever you want to get a new random sort list, just open the file or hit the F9 key. Brainbench MVP for Microsoft Word

Thanx for your replies,

What I am trying to to do is this:
Say I have 40 names in a column. I want that column to
be in a random order every time I create a new schedule,
so I can just copy and paste it when I create a worksheet.
This is meant for Microsoft Excel 2000.

Sorry if I misinformed you.
