Steak or Salad? I have heard that both can fill you up. I tried both and I like Steak a bit. But I still want to hear more information...

Seriously, the decision of what language to use depends on several factors. Most of which no one else can tell you and none of which you have listed.

What will you be using the laguage for?
Have you programmed before?
What sort of programming do you want to do? OO or Functional or both?

Plus, you're asking on a Python forum. You're probably going to get the answer "Python" here.

I don't have enough experience to comment on the benefits of the languages, though Python seems very nice.

But isn't Python the more well-known and widely used language ... ? Which could be a factor to consider.

Well, if that were the argument, then there would never have been a reason to switch from Perl, since it was more well-known and widely used when Python came out. Of course perl sucks, so that was the real reason to switch.

Well, I think that's the point: that factor is worth considering only if there is little inherent difference in the merits of the choices. If Ruby were notably superior to Python it would definitely be one to go for, large user base or not.

But if the choices are pretty much the same in functionality and usability, you might as well go with the more widely-used option.

Are there such significant differences between Python and Ruby?

Ruby is flexible than python. But python has many good modules ...

thanks for all your answer ! For me if no rails, i will not know ruby :)
