i am trying to get CF and PWS to talk to each other. i keep getting error messages suggsting i create a develpoment mapping. i have tried to do this in settings but it doesn't seem to work, i presume i am missingsomething obvious.

as you can imagine - not being able to test anything is becoming very very frustrating.

is there a FAQ or simple explanation of the steps required to set things up so that they work properly.

TIA
You only need a development mapping if you wish to use the browse facility inside CFStudio, this doesn't stop you browsing your pages from the browser.

To setup a development mapping, click the appropriate icon in the bottom left, at the bottom of your docked menus.
Hold the pointer over the icons to find out which one it is.

Studio Path is the path to the root directory of the webiste
CFServer path will be the same as you are using one machine
Browser path is the address to browse the website as it is setup in PWS, so something like <A HREF=" TARGET="_new">
Russ Michaels
russ@satachi.com
<a href= Internet Development
For my personal book recommendations visit
Russ

Thanks for your explanation.I now am able to connect(ish)
now i get an 'eror 404', both in studio and in iexplorer.

i am losing hair at an alarming rate.

Alex

AlexUK,

I had similar problems for a while, and still have to kick CF Administrator to make it work. So I hope the following helps.

When you installed Win 95 / 98 you were asked to give your machine a name. PWS picks this up and uses it as the name of its website. So for example my PC's called "phil" and when I double-click the PWS icon in the system tray, PWS tells me that my home page is available at <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> treats (on my machine) f:\inetpub\ as if it is <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> my development mappings refer directly to <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> without mentioning inetpub\ and CF Administrator don't communicate well:
* CF Administrator is hard-coded to look for http:/127.0.0.1/etc.
* PWS picks its own IP address and expects users to acess it via e.g. <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> (or whatever your machine is called).
I simply start CF Administrator and, when it says "This copy is licensed for only one IP address" (or whatever the wording is) I simply go into the browser's address bar and change 127.0.0.1 to the name of my PC.
