How many DSP chips is required if you use channels of a T1 for long distances?

I know you need one DSP chip for 16 analog voice ports. and 1 for 8 transcoding sessions/ or 2 conference calls.

Does the chip for analog voice ports cover the use of channels on a t1?

jacob

Also,

Can 1 DSP chip cover say 2 VIC2-4FXO cards and say 2 VIC2-FXS? for a total of 16 voice ports?

OR

Can you use a single chip for say 1 conference call and use the last 8 channels for Analog voice ports?

Thanks

i tried to run 2fxs and 2fx0 on 1 dsp and the second module to boot barfed.

Looking at the part number is the easiest.

PVDM2-8 supports 8 trunk lines (1 DSP but its a different kind of DSP that is on the 16, 32, 48 or 64)
PVDM2-16 supports 16 trunk lines and has 1 DSP
PVDM2-32 supports 32 trunk lines and has 2 DSP's
PVDM2-48 supports 48 trunk lines and has 3 DSP's
PVDM2-64 supports 64 trunk lines and has 4 DSP's

Keep in mind these numbers are vaild as long as you don't oversubscribe the DSP's.

Also keep in mind you can use the DSP's for Transcoding and conferencing.

So in your case you have a T1 (24 channels) so you need at least a PVDM2-32.
