When putting a resume together, what advice would you give to someone who is an MCSE. Would You say that you have MCP & MCSE, or would you say you just have MCSE, because the employer should know that having an MCSE means that you have already obtained the MCP status, but it looks really good on the resume of someone who's employer does not know the difference.

Did you take only the required tests to pass the MCSE? If so do not put MCP on yor resume. Now if you took the required tests for the MCSE AND you also took others like Windows 98, Windows ME, and Windows XP (yes the test is out)
you should ALSo include the MCP IE....

MCSE, MCP

Now this should get the employers attention and you can tell him not only are you a FULL MCSE but you are a MCP in Windows 98 ect..

hope this helps. James Collins

I thought that taking any of the required tests gives you MCP status, at least thats what I have heard from a bunch of people.

True. And they would look good as MCP on your resume as well. But an MCP in the desktop Operating Systems that MANY companies still use look even better. That's why I suggested that. Many companies have not switched to Windows 2000 as their primary desktop OS. So having an MCP in Designing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network Infrastructure or SQL 2000 may not meet their current needs. So saying that you are not only MCSE certified as well as MCP in Windows 98 ect.. may have a bigger impact on your eligibility. James Collins

I work for a company who sells an applicant tracking system, and we use an expert system to scan resumes for keywords. I'd say put it on there -- our expert is only so expert :)

The reasoning is that a potential employer may not know about the MCP/MCSE relationship, and only search for MCP. If he also sees MCSE on yours, that's so much the better.

Another tip: Post your resume in the body of any email in plain ASCII text. If you really want to send out a prettily-formatted version, put a line at the bottom stating that it's available upon request.

Technically, once you gain your qualification as MCSE you are no longer an MCP in the exams that count towards it.

Hence if you ALSO have an MCP in something that doesn't count towards the MCSE you are additionally an MCP. If you put MCP MCSE when in fact you are "only" an MCSE then you are technically wrong, but you will catch more employers.

So does that go for CNE too? Do you loose CNA Status when you obtain the CNE???
