In VB form design, one can trigger the "on click" event by putting an ampersand into a caption name...

e.g. &Close as a command button's caption name, would trigger the "on click" event if user presses Alt+c

My question is, this isn't working for me on the forms I'm designing. Guess I assumed Microsoft would support this in an Access development environment as well. Any body familiar with this?

It was my understanding that this did work..so I went into my database and checked. I found that it works for controls that are on the form itself...BUT if the control is in a TAB form (and maybe special controls like it) that the only functionality was the tab itself and not the form controls.

Hope it helped.

SoHunter, if you are indeed using a TAB control, and wish to make the Tab pages active on Accelerator-key press, it's very easy. I just answered a similar thread here a day or so ago with the same problem.

In(a Nutshell):

Create command buttons with your &Labels. Make them match the tab labels. The c/b should make the tab page active when it's clicked. Make the command button INVISIBLE (so it never gets the focus). Put your &-guy on the tab label too.

Then just make the c/b's real small and tuck them away somewhere. If you need more help, let us know.

Thank you for the Tab control tip (will use it in the future) - but, no, this doesn't pertain to changing pages on a tab control.

This is just a regular form, with various text boxes for data entry, and I want (on-click events for) command buttons like "Add New Record", "Return to Switchboard" etc. to be activated by accelerator (so THAT's what they're called!) keys.

Access DOES this. But I think there's an option in Win2000/XP to disable this "accelerator key support" or something. I can't tell you exactly where to look, but I know that, normally, Access supports the & accelerator key...
