Hi,

I have a question; what is the purpose of the imcdata\in\archives and imcdata\out\archives folders?
The reason that I ask this is that I have 30,000+ files in both folders and those files are taking several Gigs of disk space. Is it safe to delete those files from time to time to reclaim disk space?
Any comments or suggestions will be welcome. Thanks.

These folders store archive copies of incoming and outgoing internet mail. They can be deleted safely. To prevent further archiving, go to the properties of the IMC and select logging. There is a specific component that should not be set above minimum or it will cause archiving. I don't have access to a server or my books at the moment, but will let you know which one to change as soon as I get my book.

I figure that out over the weekend. And I believe that the setting that you are talking about is under the Diagnostic Logging of the IMS properties. I stopped the service, then deleted all those files, restarted the service, and change the message archival to minimum. I also changed the SMTP logging to minimum to keep that file from growing out of control. Thanks anyway.

You got it right. A reference I would recommend is Exchange 5.5 in a Nutshell, published by O'Reilly. It details what each folder is for in an appendix.

Bob:

I am an administrator of Exchange 5.5. We will be upgrading to Exchange 2000, in a few months, and am wondering if you know of any publications you would recommend, such as Exchange 5.5 in a Nutshell, published by O'Reilly, that you recommended to Draco55.

Thanks!

Myrl,

I have a book at home that is very good. E-mail me at fuego007@mindspring.com and I'll send you the info.
