My screen has a purple tint to it causing difficulty reading my info. Is there a way to correct this or does this mean that my monitor is going out.

Please advise

Reggie

Colour casts are usually a sign of the monitor on it's way out or a damaged VGA lead.
There are adjustments internally but not for the untrained user (very high voltages) that can kill.
It is possible also to compensate a colour cast by altering in a colour profile setup, these usually come with image manipulation software like Adobe Photoshop or similar and will allow some degree of compensation.

Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

It might be as stated above, but also if someone has been in contact with the screen with something magnetic you will get purplelike stains on the glass. If the latter I don't think it's possible to fix it.

If its is whats detailed in last post... it is possible to fix, but its also possible to make worse.

I never needed to do this before but aparently if you use the oposite polarity magnet (should be able to find which one on net somewhere) and rub it on the area that has turned that colour it should turn it back to normal.

This is caused by the somebody accidently magnitising parts of the screen.... this then drags the pixcel whole out of place and then one gun wont shoot through straight, giving the strange colour.

I know its something like that anyway.... its a few years ago someone explained it to me.

The cable is a common reason for a shaded screen. If you can swap the cable over (some are moulded onto the monitor) then do so.

If its the entire screen.... tis not likely to be magnets as discussed earlier... generally that would be patchs on the screen ----------------------------------------
