I also need a utility/tool which is capable of purging deleted files from X days ago, from all subdirectories on a volume.

any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can use the Filer Utility to flag all folders and subfolders as purge immediate. From a workstation dos prompt or run filer. Select Manage Files and Directories and browse to the folder you want to deal with. Hit f10 and then select View/Set Directory Information from the popup window. Scroll down to Directory Attributes and hit enter then the insert key for a list of attributes to insert. You can select purge from the list and away you go.
I think you can also set a purge attribute on a folder and all subfolders with the flag command from a workstation dos prompt as well but I cannot access the correct syntax on my Netware 5.1 server. I used to do this by using a command such as
FLAG *.* /S +P ACC BEF 01-14-1999 or some such thing but I may be confusing this with the NDIR command. Hope this helps.
