I need to upgrade a Netware 5 server that is using IPX only to only Pure IP. What is the best method for achieving this conversion. I only have one Novell server.

Netware 5 can run BOTH IP and IPX while migrating, or as long as you want - you should have used both to begin with. Be sure you know what you're about with IP before you start - do you have an internet connection and a registered Class C address? Do you have a firewall with Address Translation so you can use one of the unregistered address ranges (10.x.x.x)? Read up on the IP configuration steps in the installation - you should be able to assign an IP address to the server NIC, bind IP to it, assign an IP address to a workstation, and get rolling. Try that much, read up on what it happening, and go from there. I have all IP running on workstations, but one network printer (an OCE' whose Data Access Controller runs OS/2) still uses IPX to connect. also, you'll love the Java version of RConsole that runs on IP.
Fred Wagner
frwagne@ci.long-beach.ca.us

I Won't use the Netware 5 server for internet access. I need my internel network to run IP. The person who install the Netware 5 software only installed IPX. I want to migrate to only IP. Is this possible? and will it comunicate with NT using IP on the Netware server?

As far as I am aware Netware 5 will default to IP during the install. If you do not have IP installed then the engineer must have chosen not to install IP. The best way that I can think to install IP onto you server is to load the NLM INETCFG.
You should then be able to bind the IP address to the card(s) etc.
Good Luck
