Purchased a used g700 gateway and purchased a new s8300 server. I am having a heck of a time registering this thing with avaya. they say the gateway was registered to someone else. why do they care about the gateway i thought it was the s8300 server they carred about ? Is there any way for me to get this configuration up and running ? Thanks for any info.

Well, here is how it works: The CM license is licensed to the G700's serial number... And if that G700 Serial Number is on someone else's SID, you cannot put an S8300 in that G700... I suggest you don't buy stuff on eBay for this reason, or just assume this is the case. There is pretty much no way to remove the SN from the old SID, for all practial purposes.

You might have to buy a new G700, or a G350, put the S8300 in that, and license it to that, then you can add your used G700 as a 2nd Gateway.

Sorry for the bad news, but I have seen this before.

What happens if the S8300 and the G700 are both on the the same SID. Can the entire system change ownership?

The CM is licensed to the gateway, not to the S8300.

You would have to find the person, who had that G700 gateway on their license, and have them do a "processor changeout" (realy a gateway changeout), or do an RFA revert back. They would need to get that G700 serial number OFF their SID, before you could use it.

This is why I am telling you, it is next to impossible to do.

You could purchase used S8300/G700 for the purpose of using them in a lab environment, right?

yes TechJimF, but you CANNOT license an S8300 to one, if the gateway is currently on someone else's SID, and there is no way to find that out, until you have the gateway serial number, and use "advanced search" in RFA, to see if it is on some else's SID. Like I said, they can be used for Gateways 2, 3, 4, 5 etc at a location, but don't count on using it for Gateway 1, because these ebay gateways are used, and %99 are from someone else's system.
