Our firm has Mercator Desktop; purchased a LOOONG time ago. I believe Mercator has since been purchased by somebody else. Does anyone know where I can purchase newer versions of the software?

Also, if somebody can help me with questions about limitations of Desktop I would appreciate it. Our primary limitation seems to be that we cannot launch a map from inside our applications (PowerBuilder) in such a way that our application can wait for the results. We would need an ActiveX control to do that, and I see none. Is that correct?

The other thing we'd like to be able to do is FTP our files to our VAN within the map itself. Currently the map creates a text file, then we go outside of the application to upload the files. Is this something that should be possible with Desktop?

Thanks for any information provided.

TSi became Mercator, which was purchased by Ascential, which was purchased by IBM. You can get the latest version 7.5.1 from IBM's Software group.
If you want to run a map from within another application, there are two ways to do this: 1. have the application call a batch file to run the map using the command server that comes with Desktop. 2. Purchase the Development Kit that contains JAVA and Platform APIs.

Desktop does not come with the FTP or VAN adapters. This is available with the Design Studio (but not licensed for a production environment) the DK (IBM Websphere DataStage TX DK) or the Command Server (now called IBM Websphere DataStage TX). The Event Server is IBM Websphere DataStage TX EE.

What version of Desktop do you have, if it is too old, your upgrade could require a bit of re-mapping.

Thanks for the information. We have Version 6.5 -- do you think that is old enough to require a lot of remapping?

Not that much, unless you happen to have a rule that takes advantage of a bug.
