I just downloaded and installed the Puppy iso cd. I am completely amazed. The total ISO distribution is only about 60Mbytes and has everything you probably need to have. It runs completely in ram. I would say 64 Mbytes should be enough. More would be better. It identifyed all my hardware and automatically locked onto my ADSL. It has firefox, abiword etc. But all this is fine, the most importand feature is, if you leave the CD unclosed during burning it will write on shutdown all your system setting and downloaded files to the CD, it needs a normal CD only not an RW. It appears it saves the information like a musicfile on up to 700 tracks or so. Also it has a script to make the whole installation to a flash card or drive. I just did that and it booted up without any problems. I would think this is an ideal distro for a new comer to linux. Good luck and the best regards.

Knoppix has been arround for eons, and while writing to the end of recordable media is cool... Portable storage is really headed toward flash (which Knoppoix has been using for a while). What I'm waiting for is them to be able to write data to your skin, so you litterally have the data wherever you go.

That's a great idea, a tattooing machine! Print image files to your skin, temporary or permanent inks available, no artistic talent required!
