What is the easiest way to organize punch down your cables onto 48 pp? SOmeone told me to first take all of the cables and group them into groups of 12 cables ie (D1-D-12) and so on! They said this will save you a lot of time in the long run.

Here's how I do it. It all starts when you are pulling cable. I make sure that I have both black and white tape (colors don't matter as long as they are different). I put my data cables in groups of 6. Black tape if they are on the right side of the 48 pt pannel and white tape if they are on the left. Now once I've pulled all my cable, I can quickly seperate black from white and I know what cables go up/down each side of the rack. Then I termiate each 6 pack starting on the outside and working my way to the center.

Hope that helps.

Or if you are pulling cables for jack locations, make sure you mark each cable on both ends, sharpie, cable label etc, then at patch level sort and group your cables in succession. For those cables that go from L center to L lay them in the L side of the cable rack. Opposite for R Center to R.

Groups of 12 is normally the way to do it,although bringing them down from both sides has plus and minus aspects.
Plus is that it looks neater.
Minus is that on the left side (facing the panels from the back)adding any later on is a real chore to any un-used ports as you have to fight the cable bundle itself.
I prefer starting from the right (facing the panels from the back) so if I do have to add any later on, it is easy to run the new cable over the top of the existing and it looks 'dressed' also.

On a 48, I do the top 24 then the bottom 24 as seperate bundles then bring the both together when done and dress the two using velcro.
It is hard to explain so maybe a picture would assist you.
Go to : look at the photo and you will see a solution I used for two groups of 48's.

Good luck,
