Punchdown Cat5E to Cat6 Patch

We have some outdoor CAT5e runs to wireless point to point links than run back to an all CAT6 MDF.(We didn't run outdoor cat6) Can I punch the Cat5e down to the CAT6 patch and have it work without worrying about termination/connectivity problems?

I understand it will only run at Cat5e speeds.

Is this even possible?

Check the guage. should be 24, which is pretty much(?) the standard with CAT 5,6,..
