Do you know how I could pull local server information to display on a web page (such as registry information or file information)?

I am trying to build a web page that would show the current Virus DAT version and release date. I know the registry key(s) I want, just don't know how to display them on a page.

Thanks

It is certily possible if you have access to run Scripts such as ActiveX on the local machine.

[red]ggriffit[/red] is right. Normal web scripts (like javascript) cannot access system information. You'd need to write (or purchase) a script that could be given trusted access to system information. When a visitor comes to your website, you could push the script, but they would get a "Security" warning that they would need to accept before the script could be installed. This is how Windows Update works.

I guess I mis-stated myself somewhat. I would like to display registry information of the server that the web page is running on. I really wasn't looking to display end user info.

Thanks,

Mark

You still need the ActiveX object to read the registry. The registry is the heart of a Windows computer, thus the need for all the security. Imagine any web page being able to access your registry! Maybe that's OK for you, but I certainly don't want anybody or any entity poking around in my registry without my knowledge and permission.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

Is this your own server? The reason I ask is that a shared host will kill your account for even attempting this.

Hope this helps
