I have an Epson C80 that has a big black gooey mess of ink in the lower left side of the printer, that leaves black streaks down the back of each printed page. I have been cleaning the printer out for about an hour now trying to get all the ink out of the bottom. There seems to be a resevoir type thing where most of the ink is "captured".

Is it supposed to do this? If not, what may have caused my ink cartridge to drop it's load?? This happened at the most inopportune time as I was printing contract agreements. The agreements all look like crap with the ink down the side of the page.

Thanks so much for any help.

The cartridge is probably leaking. There is a little leakage even from a good cartridge. There is a well under where the heads normally park when not in use. This gets pretty gummy after years of use. A good cleaning and new cartridges may fix your problem, or you may have to invest in a new printer. Jim

This is a fairly new printer, only 8 months old, but it does get constant use. I did get most of the ink cleaned out, no more black streaks on the pages. Now I know to check/clean it every once in a while. Thanks everybody.

And I changed the ink cartridge. Maybe I just had a bad cartidge. *shrug*

Thanks again.
