I'm working with Flash MX, but publishing in a Flash 5 format. I am updating some former flash files (.swf) that were embedded into a company's website. Here's my question:

1. Is there any way to save to a particular folder when publishing, rather than having to go to my original_art folder every time and do a copy/paste to the folder where my .swf movies are stored? Original_art is where the .fla files are all stored.

Usually the Publish feature outputs the .swf in the same folder your project file(.fla) resides. Simply move your project .fla to that folder and start the application by double clicking it.

BTW, did you know, that each time you test your movie, Flash outputs an .swf, which overwrites the previous one? You don't really have to publish every time to see an updated movie! I rarely use the Publish feature at all, I have a template html, in which I just change the name of the movie and it's dimensions, when I'm through! Regards,

So, i either have to move my .fla files out of their original folder to the .swf "movie" folder and then back again when i'm done publishing or testing....

or i have to move my .swf file out of the "art" folder to the "movie" folder after testing/publishing?

And what did you mean about the template html file? Please explain? Thanks for your help.

What's the problem with having your project .fla in the Art folder and leaving it there?

You don't need to publish to see the .swf. As I said, everytime you test your movie, Flash outputs a .swf. So if you want to test it outside the Flash application, just keep the art folder opened, and double-click that .swf.

All that Publish really does differently, is output an html in which your .swf is embedded.

I've outputed it once, changed what I wanted in the html (put the movie in a table to center it, got rid of the borders and scrollbar, etc...etc... And save it as an html template (general html that can be use with any movie).
When I'm ready to upload my file, I open up the template html, change the movie's name and whatever else I want to change, an save it as the html for that particular movie. Rarely use the Publish feature anymore. Regards,

You can save even more time by altering the HTML template Flash uses to generate the published HTML file - it's in the Flash directory on your C drive.

Add the table tags etc that you want there and you'll never have to do it again to individual files.

But then I have to use Publish... And I don't want to! Regards,
