Hi,

Is there any easyway to re-publish a report. I have logged onto the server and used the publising wizard. I can't seem to get it to work from my machine. I can use the CMC to delete an object and then I have to go through the publising wizard which seems a bit lond winded if I have only changed one field. Can't I just drop the new report into a directory and overwrite the existing one. Any idea's I would be greatfull. Thanks Rachel

You can publish a report directly from Crystal Reports using the Save As option.
Pick the Enterprise button in the Save As dialog box, log in to Enterprise, and navigate to your folder and save the report.

You can also publish a single report from the CMC.
Under Objects, you can click New Object, and then provide the appropriate info.

I don't recommend trying to save the reports to the file location that the Input FRS uses.
Enterprise creates some cryptic folder structures and file names so it can be a real pain just to find the report.
Plus when you publish the report, CMS updates the system database with information about the report. If you go and change the report file, and don't publish the report properly, you may end up with a report that doesn't work when you run it.

Brian,

Thanks for your help. I have crystal installed on the server I also have crystal installed on my desktop. I have carried out your instructions which work perfectly on the server however when I try on my desktop I get an error message Transport error: communication failure. Thanks Rachel

At what point in the process do you get this error?

~Brian

Hi,

As soon as I added the server name user name password and clicked on OK.

I have checked on the server there is a BOE11 ODBC which I do not have on my machine. There is a password in this ODBC but we have set our enterprise to use passwords yet as we are still testing. Cheers Rachel.

The BOE11 ODBC DSN is only needed on the Enterprise server, not any of the clients. The CMS uses this to communicate with the system dabatabase.

When you log in to Enterprise from your desktop, ensure that the System value in the authentication dialog box is the name of the enterprise system, not your desktop pc name.

Brian,

I have followed excalty the same path as the server and I still can't communicate on my machine.

System Servername
Username Administrator
Password ****
Authentification ENTERPRISE

This is the same on the server and my workstaion. I have also tried in the system box.

Servername:6400
and
Servername:8080

Where I say servername I am using the correct name of my server.
still with no joy do I need to install something else on my machine or go through a setup process. I have installed crystal 11 server client installation. Thanks Rachel.

Hi,
Be sure not to confuse products( not assuming you are)..

In your desktop CRXI Designer ( Professional or higher version), try this..

After starting the designer, use the Open..From Enterprise Folder option and provide the same login info you use when connecting to the CMS for CE ( That is Servername/username/password/authentication - Use the IP address for the server in case your DNS is having problems).

If you can then see the CE folders, you can open, edit and resave from there...If not. please post the exact error message(s) you get - if any.

Hi,

I have tried using the IP address I am still getting the same error:-

Transport Error: Communication Failure.

Do I need to set something up that I have missed. Thanks for all your help. Cheers Rachel.

Hi,
Is it possible you are behind a firewall?
Can you, from a command prompt, ping the server's IP address?

Yes, I can contact the server no problem. I have only just installed the client server version. I was wondering if my setting are correct ?

Thanks for all your help I will keep trying.

Hi,
What, exactly, do you mean be the client server version - version of What?.

Crystal Reports ( CRXI ) is just a Windows program , not a client/server application ( altho' it can act like one when opening reports from the CE system).

Hi,

I have installed crystal report version 11. There are 3 cd's in my box crystal reports developer edition 11.

There are two crystal reports server cd1 & cd2 I have installed these on the server. I have also installed these on my machine on my machine when I was installing I had two options install client which worked and added the web publising wizard to my machine and crystal reports server. The option to install the server was not working only client installation of crystal reports srever worked. I hope I an not confusing you. Thanks Rachel

Hi,
One of those 3 CDs should have been the CRXI Report Designer ( different from the Report Server )..

That is the tool I was talking about to use when editing and resaving directly from the Web published folders..
