My boss has me doing some desktop publishing, and until now its been in MS Publisher. Now we have just gotten PageMaker and Quark. In Publisher, there's a function called 'Word Art' where you can put text in a box, then 'stretch' it so that it fills the entire frame vertically. I don't see this function or anything like it in either Pagemaker or Quark.

Can anybody tell me what the steps are?

Hi, MaddestMax,

If your previous practice has been with MSPub, then I'm afraid it's big leap and lots of unlearning.

Conventional PM wisdom is do not use WordArt or any other OLE/Paste Special application.

Graphics are created in other applications - typically PhotoShop, Illustrator, Corel Draw and then imported into PM.

Graphics are imported into PM using File -> Place. The reason for this is that the import filters are tailored to ensure faithful reproduction of the original and overcome the shortcomings of the Windows clipboard.

I suggest you spend time reading this:

And why on earth has your boss purchased BOTH Quark and Pagemaker when they are essentially the same sort of software - for page layout???

Hi, Lyn,

They should have bought InDesign anyway…
