Published Report Output Differs From Developer Output

Hi,

I'm using CR Developer V11 and Crystal Reports Server V11.

I developed a report in the developer that outputs information based upon 11x17 paper. When I run the report in developer the output looks great and I can save it in Acrobat format and it looks great. Ther are about 15 columns in the detail section and a report header that is colored orange and spans the entire width of the report.

I published the report to the server and when I run it now I only see about 10 columns going left to right. The orange report header bar does seem to go out the appropriate width - there's just no columns under it after the 10th column (all white space).

I setup the published reports properties to use 11x17 paper and so forth but it didn't fix anything.

I have fooled around change the report output to Acrobat and Excel but none of them display the output properly.

Anyone seen this before / have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Be sure the same printer used for the design is also installed and defined on the CE server.

I had the printer that was used when developing the report in CR Developer installed on the same server that CR Server is installed on. But it wasn't the default printer.

I went into the report that was published to the CR Server and changed its settings to use the printer that the report was developed with.

I ran the report and had the same output problem.

I went back and made the printer that I developed the report on the default printer on the server that CR Server is installed. Then went into the published report and set the printer to the default printer.

Same issue still came up.

Out of curiousity why would CR Server care what printer was associated with the report when it was developed? I would think it should only go by the paper / page layout settings you specify. Otherwise wouldn't this mean that CR reports are hardware dependent? I guess that's theory though not reality.

Any other resolution ideas?

Thanks

HI,
As I understand it, CE uses the installed printer info to determine the capabilities of the printer, like page sizes allowed, orientation, paper locations, etc.

It is odd, since printing is Client-side, but I guess it needs to know how to render the output..
We use a generic HP 8100PS on the CE server since it can do most special things we need, so if a special output ( like Legal - Landscape) is needed, the developers use that as the printer ( which they also have installed) for their report.
[BTW, we set the server's printer up as LOCAL printing to FILE, since it does not actually print anything.]
