Hello, I initially posted this thread in a different forum and did not get very good repsonse so I am trying it in this forum.
I need guidance in creating some reports. My company has a in house application which we sell to clients. This was written using Java and is a web based application. Previously they have been using SQL queries to display reports using JSP pages. Now they just purchased Crystal Reports 10 Advanced Developer Edition and Crystal Enterprise 10.

The question is what would be the best way to publish these reports over the web within this application? The application runs with SQL server 2000 and Oracle Database servers. Are there any tutorials that I can read to get started on this?

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi,

We currently use Crystal Enterprise (CE) for a number of applications and have found it an excellent bit of software. I'm not sure how much knowledge you have of the product, but essentially CE sits on a server somewhere, and you save your Crystal Reports onto it (there are a couple of ways of doing this but its very straightforward).

You could call the (configurable) CE user interface from your web app which would display a list of available reports to the user. - Alternatively you can call an individual report from CE via a URL string directly from your application, passing any input parameters in at the same time, so the users gets presented directly with the report + data. There is also the potential for very tight security if that is important to you.

Regarding documentation, there is a plethora of information out there. A good starting point would be
There is also a great deal of info on the CE10 disks themselves.

Hope this helps, Gavin

The best place to get help would be the Business Object Crystal Enterprise Forum on this site, there are a couple of guys that are fairly switched on on the subject.

But to start with you could register you products with Business Objects and have access to all their online help and tutorial, there are a lot of PDF documents to download and lots of samples too.

You will probably find out that you have a limited Licence for Crystal Enterprise (Been There.....), but if you are willing to fork out the money the process should be fairly straight forward.

Happy Hunting.

Thank you guys, I will look at the CE forum and Business Objects support.

dear members,
we are in th eprocess of developig application using Java/j2ee/oracle as database. This is an browser based application. We need to publish the reports on the web via a server. I am not sure which version of crystal reports to purchase. Also the client does not have much budget for this. Could you please advise whether going for a lower version of enterprise edition will solve the purpose.

Hi Dipti,

I was able to get the reports distributed over the web using Crystal Reports. I am using CR 10 Advanced Developer Edition. I had to install the Java Reporting Component (JRC). You dont need Crystal Enterprise for this. Once you are done with the install you can also see sample Java application at:

Hope this helps!
