Heres my problem...

I need to have my various layouts within a drawing batch plotted as pdf files according to the layout name I give it. What I'm getting is if I have say 10 layouts in a drawing called XX, the publish commmand will grab all 10 files and list them in the sheet name column but when it comes time to plot the pdf files it wants to name all ten as the drawing name XX as opposed to the layout names which would be XX1, XX2, etc. Is there a way around this or am I missing something. I deal with mulitple drawings contained within a drawing project and each drawing needs to be plotted as a separate pdf on it's own titleblock. Sometimes I have 20 or more layouts and to dplot toa pdf one at a time can take a while. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Jon,

You might look into the sheetset manager - I haven't used it, but from what I understand, I think it will do what you need?

Hello Jon,
I can say right off the bat, that according to the Autodesk website, that information s hardcoded. I verified that by speaking with a co-worker who used to work for Autodesk. Apparently this has been an issue when using the plot to file feature and they do have articles on the subject.

Here is one link and I found several others. While the article refers to dwf (Autocad's version of pdf), it is a limitation of the publish feature.

What you can do, and you may very well already know this, you can rename the sheet in the publish dialog box. This is what I always do and then I just save the list.

While I love sheet set manager, it isnt going to solve your sitution. Sheet set manager is for setting whole projects (sheets, views, scales, titeblock, and viewports) and then using it as a template to set up entire projects for the future in minutes. It is defintely worth looking into and can save you an incredible amount of time. When it comes time to plot your sheet set, you are still going to be limited to the default naming convention in the publish dialog box.

Hope this helps.

I want to start off by apologizing to Tcarpenter. IT IS possible to plot without the prefix or filename when using publish within sheet set manager from version 2005 & 2006.

If you were to plot several sheets in the publish dialog box, as the link says, you are somewhat stuck with the naming convention. You would have to manually rename each sheet. If you can take the time to figure out sheetset manager, you can start a new sheet set. Open the Shheet set manager under Tools. Use the drag down menu new sheet set. Use the option, Use Existing Drawings and click Next, give the sheet set a name, click next. There should be a dialog box that says Import Options. If you click that, deselect the option, Prefix Sheet Titles with Filename. Follow the rest of the instructions till you reach Finish.

Then when you see all your sheets, you can right click on the name of the sheet set and choose pubilsh. You have the ability to choose "To plotter" or to "Publish dialog Box" where you can select the several setups.

I know this is a fairly quick answer to a complicated issue like sheet set manager, but it is worth the time.
