Did someone from using Public VoIP srevices from your local carriers? I mean instead of using a E1 PRI (EuroISDN) H323 or SIP? Do you think this will be the future? Anyone with suggestions or even trials?

MCI is doign this in NY..offering hosted redundant IP voice trunks of all types, great for DR/Redundancy/DID rerouting

they have many compatible protocols...gonna try some out very soon so i'll report back

Yes, please report back. Lets try and keep this thread alive as a repository on this (e.g. real world experience in a business setting).

i've done that for tie pri qsig to cisco, h323 to h323, ccm to remote ccm, back to qsig to a avaya. because of inplace bandwidth, it's a clean setup, lighting msg lamps, sending names etc to the cisco soft and wireless, no name display on the avaya end of course but i can give msg lamps to that switch. i know this is not pstn, but the interface is simular

I have tested H323 to a Siemens EWSD public switch with a NORTEL CS1000S, I have incoming calls running but actually problems with outgoing calls. Seems again related to my router. I use H323 and I don't like the Siemens concept.

They need that my CS1000S will register to their Gatekeeper, but this makes my NORTEL configuration a mass. I prefered that my Gatekeeper (NRS) will speak to thier Gatekeeper and exchange information.

I think there are still alot of questiosn how public VoIP services will work.
