Hello everyone,

I have a BCM50 Rls 6.0 with all the last updates.
I would like to know how to configure the address discovery flag on the BCM.

When my ISP changes my Public IP address I have to go into my Element Manager to change it every time.

I am sick of this problem and don't seem to know how to fix it.
I have two off premise IP i2004 phones that need to log in the BCM. Every time the IP address changes I have to get someone off premise to enter the new Ip address into the phone.
It is very enoying!
My ISP changes the IP address now more often. I think they are doing it on purpose.

Is there a way around this without having a static public address. It is too expensive for me to have a static ip address for my home use.

Thanks

SL

It's been a while but have you tried DynDNS. it's online and free. I often used it on the old BSR222 routers when setting up remote Ip phones or setting up tunnels between 2 BSR222 routers. It will enalbe you to use the same DNS Name even though your Public IP address changes. Google it and see if this may fix your issue.

Thanks,

I already have a DynDNS for my home Axis Camera System.

I am not an Advanced user with routers.
Do you know where I can find a written procedure for this DynDNS configuration.
It would help me alot.
Do I absolutely need to use BSR222 routers or can this work with other routers?

Thanks alot for your help!

SL

Other routers should be able to support DynDNS. I haven't used it on any routers except BSR222's but I am pretty sure it would be available. Find out what kind of router you have and go to their website to see if it supports DynDNS. It may be an issue if it is a off the shelf Netgear router or something fairly cheap. Sorry I can't be of more assisstance than that.

Good luck and let me know what happens.

Also, maybe someone else will chime in with another idea.

won't it make sense to purchase a static IP thus you control it, it's should not be more than $10 per month

The i2004 phones do not allow you to enter a host name - only an IP address. Due to that, even if you get a Dynamic DNS account, it cannot help. If you want these remote phones to reliably connect without reprograming, a static IP address is the only option.

An alternative solution would be to use i2050 instead of the i2004 phones combined with the dynamic DNS account. In the i2050 configuration, you can enter a host name - and dynamic DNS would make sure your host name always resolves to the correct address.

Thanks for the answers guys,

Sam173,
I live in Montréal, Québec, Canada.
My ISP is Vidéotron.
They only offer Static IPs to commercial costumers!
They suck!
If I want a Static Ip for residential use, I need to switch my services to commercial
which is almost double the price of what I pay now.

I would of done that but now way to negociate with them.

:(

UCXGUY,
I will see that my two i2050 softwares be configured with DYN DNS instead of the IP address.
I hope it will work due to the fact that I am not using the latest version.
I had a license server issue with the latest version that I was not able to solve.

Thanks

UCXGUY,

I am using i2050 vesion 2.00 0228
It will not work with DYN DNS.
There seems to be a lack of space where I have to enter the DYN DNS address.
:(

Thanks

When you open the i2050 Settings dialog box and select Server, you can choose either IP or Name as the server identification. If you pick the Name radio button, the text control beside it will allow you to enter the host name without any size limits.

As a side note, make sure that you enter the host name in both the Primary and Secondary server configuration.

UCXGUY,

When I try to enter the new address it will not permit me to add a period in the address?

I think I am doing something wrong here! LOL

Thanks
