All,
Might be something useful for somebody who's trying to implement Public Folders on their Exchange Server.
Currently, we've just implemented Public Folders within our Exchange. One of our major concerns for not using Public Folders from the beginning was because of the concern of all the attached document being stored in the server.
One of the workarounds that we've done is instead of attached documents within the post, we create shortcuts to these documents. We place these files on one central location in our other server and points the shortcut to this location.
Another thing to keep in mind is when you place these shortcuts, make sure that these users have at least read access to the file. If these file(s) are in a folder where most users don't have access ( Confidential documents etc. )They will click on the shortcut and nothing will happen. ( Because of restriction to the folder. )
You can restrict user(s) to have access to this folder but give them read-only rights to the file so they can view it when you post the shortcut in public folders.
When this is said and done, they click on the link, it should bring them to the file. They would not be able to access this same file if they're trying to view it via Network neigborhood or map drive.
Feel free to ask me any questions regarding this.
Regards,
Marvin
